Talk to people in your classes! These are the most interesting people and they will talk to you. I can't say enough about keeping an open mind -- those who expected an American university setting were very disappointed.

Academic
Course recommendations
Stay away from M. Brunet. M. Boucris is amazing. The introductary courses are very large and impersonal but if you are brave enough to go further, you will find great teachers and smaller classes.

Personal comments
It's not fair to rate assessment -- it differs widely depending on the teacher. The grading was very challenging, sometimes arbitrary, but the American equivilence with the U of M program is very generous. It's no walk in the park, but isn't that what higher education is supposed to be?

The clubs are meat markets. The best bar is the Rebuffy (say bonjour to Thierry). The Theatre National brings exciting, international theatre. The surrounding country is beautiful and still pretty wild. Not to be missed are the Cevennes Mountains.

Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Home university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
I would choose on-campus housing for the price and for the chance to meet other students.

The room was small, the cooking facilities non-existant, the bathrooms sketchy, but the life was extraordinary. It was spartan to say the least.
