ase really helps to find accomodation at verona. the prices are ok, but you should have a look at your appartment before coming here as owners shouldn't be trusted on the telephone...and don't expect too much of the heating!

you should try to get into one of these posh discos at the lake like biblo, which are full of italiens off-season. there's a nice cafe called tubino nearby via borsari/via mazzini, where you should order caffe con panna di caffe. overall, the best way to have fun is to get to know italians, who can show you all the hidden fun-packed places you would hardly discover without them!

Overall
I wish I had known...
In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
Important factors in my choice
(1) Unimportant – (4) Very important
Personal recommendation
ase is great and you feel integrated right at the beginning. the university is small, but i think that's an advantage because you don't feel lost. that means less chaos especially in italy!

Academic
Course recommendations
if you are lucky, you can find a prof who appreciates having erasmus students in his/her course. as a result they treat you good during the exams! so don't be shy and present yourself to your prof right at the beginning. then he knows that your italian isn't that perfect, which avoids embarrassing questions during the course.

Personal comments
it was quite unusual for me having an oral exam with 20 other students listening behind my back, but this is the italian system. i didn't like the library, because you don't have direct access to the books, you have to order them.

Languages
Language of instruction: Italian
Was learning Italian a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't.
How much did you improve your Italian?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.)
My level after: At ease in most situations
Language difficulties
Administrative / Institutional
Personal comments
italians really help to learn the language! if you ask they mainly try to speak slowlier and without dialect. as i also spent 8 months in france, where the french weren't that helpfull, i really appreciated that point. however, if there are any problems with the administration etc., you can always ask somebody of ase for help, they speak english, spanish aso.

Personal spending habits
the food is cheaper, but the nightlife at my university in germany doesn't offer that much distraction. as i almost went out every evening here at verona, i spent a lot more money than at home. above all, i always had the impression being on holiday here. and you always spend more on holidays.
