I found the housing arrangments made by the university to be very helpful. Many of the students there could easily move to a different building if they were unsatisfied even after signing a contract.

I studied German for two years before I studied there. I did not feel at ease in any situation when I arrived. I participated in a month-long language course throughout September that is offered at the University of Konstanz. After this course, I felt confident and really felt integrated into the society a lot more than when I had just arrived. Overall, my language and communication was a huge learning experience. I gained much knowledge about the outside world, as well as another language. It created many new views into my own culture and society as well.

For travel: There are many special offers by the Deutsche Bahn. There are cheap tickets that up to 5 people can ride on and many special deals. Just ask!

Make sure you look into more scholorships. It is not good to struggle for money while you are there. You should allow yourself to be as free as possible with travelling and getting to know the country and are really well. I recommend staying for at least one year. Anything less than one year would not give you very much in terms of the language, culture, or personal development.
