Personal spending habits
The main factors, which were responsible for the unusual higher costs i had to take in account were the very high housing expenses, the traveling and the nightlife. I usually don't go out so often in my home town as I did in Utrecht. This is partly because of the many partys, which were arranged for the international students und in part because of the all new people I got to know in Utrecht. We also did some traveling - for instance we went once to Paris and so on. Of course all these activities were linked with spending more money than I usually do when I am in my hometown.

Academic
Course recommendations
The courses are pretty intensive and the time for learning and understanding the study material pretty short, so one needs to prepare himself solid every week for that matter.

Personal comments
I chose to do an exchange semester in the Netherlands mainly because I was informed that the language of instruction will be English. Considering the fact that English is the language of the international economics and politics, I was determined to take this chance and make a step towards a higher level of my language and communication skills. So I did - going to Utrecht. Today, I honestly can say, that I succeeded with that mission of mine.

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
I loved the people I spent my exchange semester with! We had so much fun together! We are still in touch and even see each other from time to time, although we all live in different countries! :))

As I pointed out above, the housing at Utrecht university was a bit too expensive for what they could offer us - the building, we were living in, was old and kind of left behind. We did clean and tried to make it as friendlier as it could be. Besides that small housing discomfort my semester in Utrecht was brilliant!
