have plenty money saved; live in a shared apartment; choose subjects other than what you have studied at your home uni- the range of subjects on offer was fantastic, the political science and urban studies courses were superb

take plenty money or have it saved- you end up traveling more than you expect!
be prepared to share your room, i was apprehensive at first but it worked really well and saved me a great deal of money
the study is important but I gained a great deal form the social experience and the people I met
