A great university for studying languages
Tom P
United Kingdom, Undergraduate
Language, 2020
Overall
For studying modern languages, UCL is ideal. You get good language teaching, but more importantly, the literature side of the course gives you a chance to learn under some of the leading academics in their field.

London is also obviously a great place for doing languages, since it's so easy to find cultural events and native speakers with whom you can practice speaking. On top of this studying in such a big city makes it easy to find an interesting part-time job, helping you earn money on the side, and gain useful experience.

The obvious downside of UCL is the cost of living in London, and this is why so many people here get part-time jobs- if you don't want to live in a cupboard size room, the London isn't for you.

Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
I lived in one of UCL's more modern student apartment complexes. However, my unit consisted of a hallway with four single bedrooms off to one side, a bathroom off to the other side and a kitchen at the very end of the hall. The rooms were decent in size, considering that they are located in a city, however there was no comfortable common space and my flatmates and I were often frustrated with the absence of a living room type space. Ideally, if I were to do it again, I would get a private apartment. Yet, the only drawback to this is that apartments in London are way expensive and the chances that one will find non-Americans to flat-hunt with, shortly after one's arrival, are pretty much slim to none. Furthermore, I strongly suggest that if one wants to meet and hang out with the English/non-Americans during the year, DO NOT SHARE HOUSING WITH A BUNCH OF AMERICANS! Whereas, I continue to return to London to visit with all of the English and European friends that I met through my housing situation and friends of flatmates, etc, all of the Americans that I knew who lived with other Americans, only hung out with Americans and never made any lasting friendships with the English/Europeans.

UCL review
Alexander I
United Kingdom, Graduate
Area, Ethnic, and Cultural Studies, 2017
Overall
UCL is definitely an institution in the UK and abroad. During my year my programme ran into quite a few problms due to the relocation of many of the experienced lecturers. I feel that UCL did not have sufficient staff to manage the inmense amount of students that ws fostering at least during that academic year and that resulted into a lot of stress for myself and my peers. Overall, the quality of teaching was great but they definitely needto consider hiring more admin people so things can run smoothly.

Amazing opportunities at UCL.
Sam B
United Kingdom, Undergraduate
Economics, 2021
Overall
Studying Economics and Business with Eastern European Studies at UCL helped develop skills useful for my professional life. Teachers aren't as good as I imagined but the material studied is very enjoyable. Social life at UCL is amazing, the best you can get from any London University I would say. One piece of advice: get involved in societies and activities, your course is not going to be enough to live uni life at 100%.
