Of course, for graduate students it often depends entirely on what you hope to study. For most departments, however, the University of Chicago is truly first-rate. Perhaps more than most, this is one university that takes the "life of the mind" seriously.

i felt comfortable and relaxing while i was studying at the university of chicago. the experience was definitely superb and if you have intellectual curiosity and perseverance to go through some demanding work, this is the place to be. It does get really cold in winter. yikes!

The MAPH program at the University of Chicago is an excellent alternative to doctoral studies. The student body is diverse and you have access to all the classes the graduate school has to offer (both MA and PhD level). The degree is completed in just over an academic year.
