A Premium University? Yes or no
Naa A
Ghana, Undergraduate
Political Science, 2023
Overall
My time so far as a University of Ghana student has been nothing short of interesting. As a lover of Arts and Social Sciences, I would say that I found myself at home. There were a variety of courses to choose from and this made it less of a challenge to settle in. However, I do think addition and intensification of more STEM courses will be helpful.
My lecturers have generally been forthcoming with assistance from respective course teaching assistants. Providing course outlines and ensuring that we complete it by the end of the academic calendar. Resources are often provided to aid this. Unfortunately, there's no eutopia and a few lecturers(about two) I have had have not met this standard, from punctuality to adhering to the academic calendar and ensuring we understood the course. Thankfully, the lecturer evaluation link has been there to help. I only hope for its effectiveness.
The school provides a wide range of voluntary and extracurricular activities. There's always something to choose from-Be it club activity or fun initiative. The Careers and Counselling centre also gives regular alerts of internship and job opportunities and workshops too. There's always something available to make the student's CV colourful.
Living on campus comes with some challenges as some halls experience water shortage and have to move downstairs or to other blocks to get some water. Internet access has been progressive. And the school barely suffers any issues with electricity. However, each hall or hostel has it's peculiar problems and advantages. I cannot speak for all.
Post-covid schooling has so far been unpleasant. With different challenges and complaints, I understand the university is still settling in to the change and finding ways to adapt but certain measures taken were too intense. How can a 13 week academic calendar be squeezed into 6 weeks? I do not know how we survived this but it has been intense.
All in all, this university is a beautiful place undoubtedly, even in infrastructure, but it would be more beautiful if those above listened to not the complaints that have been aired but the silent ones too.

My stay in school was amazing. Although we had a hiccup in our academic programs due to covid, management pit swift action in place for a seemless progression of academic work.

The teachers were generally approachable and receptive of any further questions raised by students with regard to school work both in class and outside of the classroom. The career office was also very helpful in providing assistance for students to gain internship opportunities whenever the need arose.

Careers
The school does provide internship opportunities and career advice however, I didn’t utilize that resource as much owing to the fact that I had my internship done at another organization and received valuable career advice from my parents.

Translation/Interpretation, 2021
Overall
I studied Specialized Translation from English into French and vice versa, Theory of Translation, Area studies in Translation, Written Communication in English amd French, General Translation from French into English and vice versa as part of the Translation programme.

The Lecturers are seasoned and certified translators. They are serious intellectuals. They teach the courses very well as professionals. Their lessons served as a treasure trove for me to acquire so much knowledge from them.

The students are very disciplined and serious in their academics. As a result of that they meet the demands of many jobs.
