SPecifically, the program I joined was aimed to graduate both in the UIC (getting the Master of SCience degree) and in my home University, joining a one year and a half program during which I took classes at my home University, as I were in UIC (the method was the one adopted in the host university, and the language spoken was strincly english, of course). At the end of the year, I prepared my thesis (about heterojunction bipolar transistors on compound semiconductor) and went to UIC in Chicago to defend it, as a regular american student. The experience was really interesting, I could learn really much more in depth than during the regular studies at home university, the class was small (we were few highly selectioned people) and the teacher could follow our work with much more attention. The thesis defence at UIC was hard, but rewarding, since the student can really explain and discuss his work in detail.
