Personal comments
Speaking English helped in the university, because most of the teachers do speak a bit of it. But in everyday life, it was not very helpful, because people in the streets do not understand a word of what you are saying!

Course recommendations
If you too have Chinese courses, do get prepared to be lost. You only get to understand after a few weeks of training. Some business courses are amazing, others have to be taken with more hindsight.

Personal spending habits
Actually, life in Beijing is much less expensive than what you are used to. You can go to restaurants and pay less than 5 euros for a fantastic meal. But as everything is so cheap, you spend more than at home (but for more things and outings).

Be aware of your banking system, and make sure it really works in China. The easiest thing to do is to open a bank account in China if you do not have an international card.

I wish I had known...
That my English would not help me in everyday life situations! But it was an amazing experience, and a great satisfaction to have been able to handle it!

Final comments
Studying in a foreign university is a great opportunity, so do take it if you get this chance! It helps you to become more open-minded and to meet people from all over the world. And no matter if you do not know a lot before going, such as the language! I survived! And I'm glad I made it!

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
Hard to find an apartment when you do not speak Chinese, but when you manage to find one anyway, you pay much less than on the campus and you have more room and facilities.

The apartment I found was in a middle-class district just next to the university. It had a lot of room and was typically chinese, but still accomodating.

Nightclubs in Beijing are huge! They are about 3 times bigger than what you're used to, but mostly crowded on weekends, so better go during the week.
