L´pool is a very peculiar place and they speak with a strong accent that makes difficult to understand the locals. At university was fine since people tend to be morer educated and concerned that foreigners may have some trouble hearing certain words, accents...

I really had the chance to practise my english and to improve it. At first was a bit hard specially due to the funny accent of the people from Liverpool but after a couple of months I got used to it.

My language improved in fluency and listening/reading understanding. In generall, I can say that the major improvement is a certain security in communication. But I definitly regret to have had far to few social contact with native speakers and speaking mainly with other Europeans.

The locals of Liverpool have a very special accent but as you are most of the time with university students, if not with ERASMUS student you do not really speak to a lot of local people

Don't get stressed if you cannot understand a word at the beginning, liverpooliens have got a very "strong" accent... you'll see what I mean...
