I wish I had known...
Well for starters this place is "EXPENSIVE " mostly becasue it is very close to Washington DC and Virginia. So for an international student living here will cost in the region of $ 1000 , I do know poeple got by on a lot less, but I for one never saved any money here.

Academically excellent so if you want a cushy time with your courses this isn't the palce to be, of course this is true for engineering I really do not the scenarion in the other departments. If you like to party you can have a good time here mainly because of the close proximity of DC and Baltimore, though it doesn't get as wild as other college towns (Madison,Wisconsin, or Penn state Univ.) We do have a good basketball team so be prepared for a totally exciting Basketball season,Basketball is BIG here .

For an European person, living in USA is a nice experience itself; I've got the opportunity to learn a different way of life from other people, I think there are no words no show how wonderful it is.

Though it is not a very known campus (as Harvard, GeorgeTown, ecc), it's located in the Washington DC area, you're in one of the most important cities in USA. I strongly recommend this university, my experience is being so good.

The University of Maryland has the UM Shuttle, a free bus for students, that takes you almost everywhere. There is also a Metro Station (track), so, arriving to Washington DC Mall takes only 15 minutes. The Study Abroad Time is really very very helpful, they will take care for you at the beginning, just to show you how everything works (trains, buses, shopping, night life... anything you can imagine).

A socially and academically inviting school

Computer Science / IT, 2023
Overall
This university is able to take students who have never had previous experience in an area that they would like to study, such as in my major, being computer science. The introductory courses offer a true starting path to any subject you enjoy, with respective lectures and/or discussions to help you perfect the material down the subject journey. Also, there is a plethora of social events such as sports games, music events, and even career fairs for work opportunities. The University of Maryland is a perfect school to accommodate any and every type of college student.

Pros
A large mall by our main library, deemed the longest collegiate mall in the country.
Cons
They could hire more faculty to improve on the large student to faculty ratio.
