I wish I had known...
I wish I had known how great I was going to be. Then I would have made greater efforts to get that scholarship. Luckily, it worked out for me.

I am thankful for what the university offered to me and I wish they keep up all the good work they do, not only for internationl students. To all the exchange students, I wish they are as open as I was, keen on learning from Americans, and then it´s most likely going to be the best experience in your life.

If you haven´t had the study abroad experience, you would think that you are going to learn the language. If you go, you will find out, or at least I did, that you will change. All the influence there is from your friends, from the culture you are surrounded by etc. might really change your personality - usually in a very positive way. If you can afford to do it, go for it. Tip: Talk to people! Because then not only your English is going to improve, you will also get tips and advice that make your experience unique and truly American.

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
Since I shared a room and had an American roommate, I learned a lot. Not only did I have a native person to talk to, I learnt about American lifestyle, values and much more. Sure there are some disadvantages too not having your own space of living. But no doubt that the positive aspects top these.

I wanted to have the typical American college experience - share a room, live together, learn from each other. Since I shared a room with an American, I had a great opportunity to get used to the American culture. On the floor on which I lived, the system was that an American student lives with a foreign student. Not only did I make dozens of American friends, I also met people from all over the world. Plus, being around them, I got an idea what their cultures were like, how they had been raised. My year in the United States, including the on campus-housing experience, was the best I have ever had.

Course recommendations
I was given the incredible opportunity to choose courses from all sort of fields. To broaden my horizon, besides English and Spanish classes, I took psychology, music, criminology, journalism and others. I got insights from which I sure will benefit my entire life. Professors are unbelievably nice, offering help whenever you need it. I can highly recommend to take advantage of this system and get some new ideas taking classes that you normally wouldn´t take.

You have to have in mind what American students pay for their academic education. For most people that is quite a burden. But you get what you pay for. Excellent classes, great professors and extraordinary facilities make the academic life an experience that you can only dream of in Europe.

Use sports facilities there! "Sports Illustrated" wrote they have the best sports facilities in the whole country. And probably they do!

Overall
I have enjoyed many courses in the university, namely the following. Mechanism design: a very intriguing course where we learned how to design the mechanism of machines to achieve certain goals. For instance, we worked in a project to design a mechanism to to cut stripes of equal lengths in a moving conveyor. I have also enjoyed other courses such as the Manufacturing Methods, and the Computational Fluid Mechanics, and my Capstone Design course. Teachers are of very high qualities, always there to help and are enthusiastic about the subjects they teach. Overall I enjoyed my experience there.

First of all hitting bars in the States is different than in Europe, since the bars close at around 1am. So there is less clubbing and much more going to bars, as far as my experience goes. Since I became good friends with people from Japan, Cameroon, Australia, Mexico and other countries that were rather ¨unknown¨ to me, we tried to go to places that offer a bit of these cultures. Be it restaurants, little cafes or sports events. I had a great time at a place called ¨RagTag¨, a mixture of a cafe, bar and cinema. Also, there is a place called ¨Fieldhouse¨, a bar with two floors that had an atmosphere so exciting like I have never seen it before in Europe.
