Geordies do have a pretty strong accent, close to the Scottish one. Their slang is very tough too. But you get used to it and teachers and students usually are not from the area.

Scotland is less than 2 hours away. The Hadrian Wall starts right outside of the city. Lots of typical castles to visit.
