The cheapest supermarket in my area was Aldi. Always remember to show your student card since you'll get discounts almost everywere (disco, movies, travel...)

Course recommendations
Avoid to take too many courses with essays to submit: it is a lot of work and all deadlines are generally at the same time.

I prefer the system we have in my home university with a lot of projects and small pieces of work throughout the course on an individual or group basis: the weight of the final exam is less important.
My opinion of the university assessment

Essays and/or projects at the end of course

From October 2004 the Manchester School of Management/UMIST will belong to the Manchester Business School/The University of Manchester. It will be one of the best universities in the UK, so it's worth going there.

It's quite nice. some courses are a bit annoying, but you have a huge choice at the beginning. Try to choose good courses, and try to find out from the local students beforehand how they are.

Manchester is just in the right place - in the middle of the country. It's close to Scotland, Ireland, and even to the capital!

I wish I had known...
That I would enjoy it that much! Although I was looking to it, I was a little bit nervous and wondering whether I would like it. Now I definitely know it was worth it.
In my opinion:
Most people loved it.

Do not let yourself be put off by the quantity of work. It is true that we had a lot to do, more than I heard other students from my school were doing in other exchange universities, but you can always find time to go out and travel. It is just a matter of managing your time and your work effort, and I became quite skilled at it!

If you do not fear to leave your family, country, friends for going abroad and if you are ready to adapt to different habits and cultures, then go for it! I personly think the main point of being young and a student is to have the opportunity to meet different people, to live in different places and to experience different cultures.

Manchester offers a huge variety of different clubs, bars etc. There are also a lot of concerts/gigs taking place. The following website is very useful for making your decision: www.manchester.com/ad
