I loved it. You don't need a car when you go out or at university. There is a long street with plenty of bars, good night life, but unfortunately almost no clubs. You can use the student fitness centre for free which is very big. You can compare the university system with the "Fachhochschul System" in Austria. That's what i didn't like, but it was easy.

Arrival: fly to chicago and take the van galder bus to madison - stops in the middle of town - and is a lot cheaper than by plane. Arrange accomodation in advance - pretty important otherwise it will be bad and expensive.

Everything is made for the University students that make up 20% of the population of Madison. Campus-life in essence. This is a great experience with an American university.

Don't focus too much on the exams. I did in the beginning but found out that the way I study and learn the most did not give me the good grades. I recommend everybody on "pass/fail" basis do like I did, learn the most and don't care about the exams. I did and I have learned an incredibly lot and gained a great experience.

UW, Madison was recently rated 7th best US public University for their marketing courses at the undergraduate level. I took two, they were both awesome.

Multiple choice exams for all tests does not show you how good the student really is. The type of definition-like questions make the students that can memorize look very good and the students that can use the theories in abstract combination, intellectually, look bad. That is a shame.
