State Bar - awesome place to go and meet people, to party or just to have a single beer and go back home to study when needed. Tuesday nights at "Brats" is great for networking. Memorial Union Terrace is the best in summertime. Go there anytime, with work, with friends or alone. Bring you laptop PC and use the wireless internet while watching the boats sail by.

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
A dorm is too crowded, living all alone too boring.

Personal comments
Lack of airconditioners was awful in the first two months time. Location was perfect, close to everything. No car needed which is a great plus for exchange students

Languages
Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't.

My level after:

Personal comments
I came there with a very good proficiency in English but only from movies, books and my work. Interacting with more Americans in a social scene brought me into the contemporary English used by young people. About communications, my period in Madison taught me a lot about the American culture which I believe is a key factor in effictive communications.

Personal spending habits
You live differently. You are more social when on exchange, have less time for everyday stuff so you eat out more and obviously go travelling more. Food itself was expensive in Madison, nightlife cheap.

In my opinion:
Most people loved it.
Important factors in my choice
(1) Unimportant – (4) Very important
Personal recommendation
Everything is made for the University students that make up 20% of the population of Madison. Campus-life in essence. This is a great experience with an American university.

During my experience abroad, I ...
(1) Never – (4) A lot
Became familiar with another culture
Met people from other countries
Experienced a change in life
Advanced my studies & career
Final comments
Don't focus too much on the exams. I did in the beginning but found out that the way I study and learn the most did not give me the good grades. I recommend everybody on "pass/fail" basis do like I did, learn the most and don't care about the exams. I did and I have learned an incredibly lot and gained a great experience.

Academic
Course recommendations
UW, Madison was recently rated 7th best US public University for their marketing courses at the undergraduate level. I took two, they were both awesome.

Personal comments
Multiple choice exams for all tests does not show you how good the student really is. The type of definition-like questions make the students that can memorize look very good and the students that can use the theories in abstract combination, intellectually, look bad. That is a shame.
