Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: In a student hotel
Why?
There is a nice student lodging, Basic Hotel, just in the centre of Uppsala. Both campus (Flogsta) and Basic Hotel have lots of foreign students, but Basic's location is much better.

If you stay in Campus, make sure you are put in student room where you have your own bathroom (and share kitchen + tv room). Some student rooms are Duplex, which means you share a kitchen and a bathroom with someone. I lived in a duplex a month and found myself feeling very isolated, since my flatmate wasn't too social. When you share a corridor with 12 people you have better chances of making friends

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
The student apartments (though hard to come by) are wonderful!! Cheap, spacious and often close to the city center. (It was easier for me to get one because of my Swedish boyfriend, who's also a student...but the student rooms are nice, too.)

Sweden is such a big country...you need much time to travel around.
Finland is close to sweden: get there by ferry from stockholm (cheap and fun...beware drunk people on the boat).

Academic
Course recommendations
Comming from an education system where you complete 5 full courses at once, for one semester at a time, the Swedish system was strange because it is only once course at a time, 4 times during one semester. This gave me alot of free time, and maybe not enough class time as needed.

Trips to Finland, Estonia, and Norway will be organised for you. But it is worthwile to plan your own trip to the north of Sweden to Kiruna, and make a dogsledge trip there and go and see the Ice Hotel.
