Wonderful Educational Opportunity in Downtown Tokyo
James W
Korea, South, Graduate
International Relations, 2016
Overall
Waseda is an old university with a lot of tradition located in the heart of Tokyo.  This age and the quality of the institution means that you get access to a lot of different educational opportunities.  I met with a VIP from Doctors Without Borders, a local head of Cisco Systems, a major political figure from Saudi Arabia, and even Bill Clinton came to speak at the university.  The opportunities provided to broaden my horizons were incredible.

Pros
Varied curriculum, diverse high level speakers, fun clubs
Cons
Japanese universities let you go at your own pace, so if you want to be pushed, you have to do it yourself.

Waseda University provides different programs for undergraduate and graduate degrees. There are wide range of courses that is university wide open, meaning that student from one department is also allowed to take courses from a different department as per their interest. Depending on the course and the class size, professors are flexible and friendly.

Final comments
I recommend you stay in your own apartment if you can. Bring lots of money, or be prepaired almost every night teaching English conversation, so that you can afford to buy lunch every day. I wish I could have spent less time working, more time with Japanese friends, traveling, hanging out, speaking Japanese.
