Your role and responsibilities
ABB Motion Services, based in Eagle Farm, Queensland, is seeking talented Mechanical Fitter looking for a stable, long-term career with a global industry leader. With over 40 years of experience, we operate as Australia's ABB Traction Centre of Excellence, specialising in AC/DC traction Motors and delivering testing, diagnostics, manufacturing, machining, repairs and full overhaul services. Supported by comprehensive on-site machine and load-testing facilities, we proudly serve top-tier customers nationwide and continue to set the benchmark for technical excellence.
The work model for the role is: Onsite #LI-Onsite
You will be mainly accountable for:
* Contributing to customer satisfaction by executing workshop orders according to workshop processes and guidelines.
* Performing workshop tasks such as troubleshooting, repair and assembly.
* Checking bill of materials and other documents to identify required parts needed for service activity and ensuring that all materials, parts, and equipment are available.
* Ensuring the completion, processing, and maintenance of all required documentation.
* Assists in identifying and resolving, quality and reliability problems, in accordance with company policies and procedures.
* Executes work as per first time right approach and ensures the job is done on time as per the quality standards.
* Indentifies improvement needs and potential solutions for them in the ways of working, communicates them proactively and drovers minor improvement actions.
Qualifications for the role
* Hold a recognised Fitter Turner trade qualification.
* Demonstrated expertise working with rotating motors and generators, with strong exposure to both Industrial and Rail environments.
* Proven ability in turning and manufacturing shafts, gears, and other mechanical components essential to motor assembly; experience with dynamic balancing is highly regarded.
* Experienced in Mechanical Fitting and Turning, including accurate measurement recording in line with OEM standards.
* Competent in the use of lathes and vertical milling machines, with welding capability and strong overall machine shop proficiency.
* Extensive knowledge of mechanical fitting practices, ideally including traction motors and large rotating machinery.
* Able to produce clear, detailed inspection reports in both handwritten and digital formats.
* Confident communicator across verbal and digital channels.
* Hold a current Queensland driver's licence.
* 1-2 years post-apprenticeship experience preferred; however, suitably skilled 4th-year apprentices will also be considered.
