Job Summary

The post holder will be responsible for delivering a high quality, safe CT service at the Cromwell Hospital and diagnostic and secondary care London sites if needed. The post holders objective will be to work with a team of senior radiographers to provide high standards of service to all customers. With demand of diagnostic imaging growing, the job holder must be able to work well under pressure whilst liaising with stakeholders showing flexibility to accommodate stakeholders requests.

The candidate will work to the Standards of conduct, performance and ethics specified by the health and care professions council (HCPC). They will have responsibility for the provision of world class customer service delivered whilst complying with the organisations processes and pathways. They will promote good relations with referring clinicians and other hospital departments both internally and externally and contribute to the growth of services.

The CT Department is currently comprised of one Siemens somatom scanner and is a very busy place to work. A variety of CT examinations including full body imaging, neurological, cardiac and biopsy procedures are undertaken, as well as some specialist orthopaedic imaging.

Key Responsibilities
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Operational

1.1 Responsibility for the daily management of the CT Service in liaison with the Operational lead Radiographer; organising the daily work schedule to ensure that the department runs efficiently.

1.2 Deputising for the operational lead Radiographer as appropriate within CT.

1.3 To work flexible hours when required, to accommodate changing workload patterns.

1.4 To develop and maintain staff rotas to ensure appropriate staff coverage on the respective scanner.

1.5 To supervise the professional standards and operational management of the rotating staff and their training in the respective scanner, ensuring a consistent level of service is maintained.

1.6 To understand and implement all policies and procedures relating specifically to CT and radiation safety.

1.7 To keep up to date with CT scanning developments and participate in teaching other staff.

To perform high quality examinations as required by referring Physicians, in line with departmental policies and procedures whilst ensuring that all patients being investigated receive a high standard of care.

To accurately analyse the acquired data, record results and produce high quality images for reporting.

To be prepared to train and work in other areas of the department considered appropriate by Superintendents.

To assist in the care of all equipment within the department ensuring that cleanliness is maintained and that all equipment faults are reported immediately.

To ensure the efficient use of all resources, establish stock control systems and liaise with manufacturers and supplies.

To ensure appropriate booking, vetting and authorisation of scanning referrals in line with policies and procedures

To ensure all completed imaging has been reported in line with departmental KPIs for reporting, escalating where necessary

To administer intravenous contrast for examinations as required in line with PGDs

To develop a training schedule and assess competencies of staff within CT on an annual basis

To ensure departmental readiness of CQC inspections working collaboratively with governance teams and departmental management

Quality Assurance

To work accurately to maintain a high standard of imaging and to keep patient waiting time to a minimum in order to comply with standards of quality.

Ensure that monitoring standards provide a high-quality service for patient care, technical performance, and reporting.

To participate in a Quality Assurance programme for equipment maintaining accurate records and reporting problems to the superintendent

3.0 General

3.1 To create and maintain good working relationships with all members of the Canary wharf centre team, working positively to develop a cohesive team.

3.2 To liaise with the Radiologists for protocolling and advice as required

3.3 To participate in the departmental training programmes and demonstrate adherence to CT safety policies and procedures

3.4 Promotion of good relations with Referring Clinicians, departments within the Cromwell Hospital and peers within the diagnostic and secondary care London (DASCAL) network

3.8 To be fully conversant with the Radiology Information System, patient registration system and billing system

3.9 To ensure that effective booking, information, reporting and filing systems are maintained and developed.

To be responsible for revenue integrity processes ensuring examinations performed have been appropriately billed for

To ensure that patient confidentiality is not breached working in line with BUPA's information governance policies

To champion customer experience and net promoter services

To be able to perform CT screening services unaided such as pneumocolon scans, specialist cardiac scans, and interventional CT procedures

To participate in the on-call rota and weekend shifts when required

4.0 RISK MANAGEMENT

4.1 Report all accidents, untoward occurrences or problems to the superintendent radiographer and record such incidents according to BUPA's policies and procedures

4.2 Ensure that you are aware of, and conversant with, the Health and Safety at Work Act and comply with the regulations set down to ensure safety for patients, visitors, and colleagues.

To be familiar with and observe the Local Rules pertaining to IRMER regulations

4.4 To ensure that all necessary precautions according to the codes of practise, Health and Safety at Work Act, Local Rules, HSE reports, and Fire Precaution procedures are observed for the protection of staff and patients.

4.5 Attend all mandatory training and remain up to date with e-learning in accordance with the law and centre policy. To be fully aware of the position of fire and emergency alarms, equipment, and protocols.

4.6 To be familiar with and observe the employers procedures and ensure correct processes are followed for ascertaining pregnancy status, use of carers and comforters forms, appropriate PPE as required and use of personal dosimetry in line with local policy

4.7 To participate in integrated governance and quality meetings held by management teams and be aware of top risks within the department

4.8 To be responsible for continued professional development

4.9 To lead the audit plan for the CT department reporting into the ionising radiation groups and ensuring radiation safety if appointed as a radiation protection supervisor

HEALTH CLEARANCE

Applicants must complete a medical questionnaire and return it to the Hospital's Occupational Health Providers.

INFECTION CONTROL
Infection prevention and control is an essential aspect of patient care. All post holders have a personal obligation to act to reduce Healthcare Associated Infections (HCAIs). They must attend mandatory training in infection prevention and control and be compliant with all measures required by the Hospital to reduce HCAIs. Post holders must be familiar with the Hospital's Infection Control Policies, including those that apply to their duties, such as the Hand Hygiene Policy, the Uniform Policy and Personal Protective Clothing Policy. Post holders who have clinical responsibilities must incorporate into their clinical activities up-to-date evidence that supports safe infection control practices and procedures, for example the use of aseptic techniques and the safe disposal of sharps.

In the course of your normal work you will come into possession of confidential information concerning patients, the Bupa Cromwell Hospital, Basinghall Clinic and its staff. This information should be treated confidentially and in accordance with the Bupa Cromwell Hospital's policy and the Data Protection Act (1998) and European Union regulations.
