Reporting to: Tax Manager
Duration: Internship for 3 months (Fixed Term)
Role Purpose
The Tax Intern will support the Tax Department in delivering high-quality tax compliance, advisory, and research services to clients, while also assisting with training coordination and delivery activities under the EY Academy. The role provides practical exposure to professional tax work, learning and development initiatives, and internal knowledge-building within EY.
Key Responsibilities
1. Tax Department Support
- Assist in the preparation of tax computations, returns, schedules, and reconciliations (corporate income tax, withholding tax, VAT, PAYE).
- Support tax research and interpretation of Kenyan tax legislation, regulations, case law, and KRA guidance.
- Assist in preparing tax advisory memoranda, client presentations, and internal briefs.
- Support tax compliance reviews, audits, and due diligence engagements through document review and data compilation.
- Attend client meetings, workshops, and tax audits, including note-taking and follow up tracking.
- Provide administrative support on client engagements, including documentation and file management.
2. EY Academy - Training & Learning Support
- Support coordination of tax training programmes, seminars, workshops, and webinars for clients and internal teams.
- Assist in preparation of training materials such as slides, handouts, case studies, and questionnaires.
- Support training logistics including participant registration, attendance tracking, feedback collection, and reporting.
- Assist in updating training content to reflect legislative and regulatory developments.
- Maintain training records, learning trackers, and programme documentation.
- Provide on-the-day support during physical and virtual training sessions.
3. Knowledge Management & Internal Support
- Assist in compiling and updating internal tax knowledge resources, alerts, and learning materials.
- Support preparation of tax updates, newsletters, and learning notes for internal circulation.
- Ensure compliance with EY quality, risk management, confidentiality, and data protection standards.
Learning & Development Objectives
The internship provides exposure to tax compliance and advisory work, professional training delivery, EY's client service model, quality standards, professional ethics, and cross-functional teamwork.
Qualifications & Requirements
Academic Requirements
- Undergraduate or postgraduate student pursuing Law, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Demonstrated interest in taxation and professional services.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong analytical and research skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

Reporting & Supervision
The Tax Intern will work under the supervision of Tax Managers and Senior Associates, with functional guidance from EY Academy and Learning & Development leads where applicable.
