About the business area

Our Group Chief Information Office (GCIO) builds the digital platforms, systems, and products our customers use every day. Within GCIO, our Data teams protect, deliver, and enhance the value of data and information assets, turning vast data into powerful insights, helping us better understand our customers, our business, and the world we work in.

Who you are

We're looking for curious problem-solvers who love working with real-life data and want to work in a fast-paced business, where technology and data power our present and transform our future.

You could be a great fit if you're:

* An analytical thinker: You enjoy working through tricky problems, making sense of data, and spotting patterns that others might miss. You're excited by the idea of learning how HSBC is becoming a truly data-driven organisation.

* A clear communicator: You're keen to learn how to break down complex ideas and explain what the data is telling us in a way that makes sense to different people.

* Detail-focused and good with tools: You're excited to explore new technologies and tools that help uncover powerful insights.

* Driven and self-motivated: You take ownership of your work, stay focused in fast-paced environments, and always look for ways to learn, improve, and help your team succeed.

* Quick to learn: You're adaptable and open-minded, keen to pick up new tools, approaches, and ways of working - across different teams, cultures, and time zones.

* Self-aware: You understand how your actions and communication come across to others, and you want to grow both personally and professionally.

What you'll do

As a Data intern, you could be working on a wide range of exciting projects - what you work on will depend on your team.

Here's a taste of what you could get involved in:

* Start your journey to become a skilled data practitioner: Learn how to manage, analyse, and optimise data to support smart decision-making, meet regulatory requirements, and drive digital transformation.

* Understand what it means to have a data-first mindset: Get an insight into what it's like to work in a data-driven culture where data is at the heart of solution-design and decision-making.

* Collaborate across teams: Work with colleagues from across the business as you work on projects that connect the dots between data, technology, products, and services.

* Learn to tell stories with data: Use tools like SQL, Python, Qlik, and Spark to break down complex data and create clear, compelling narratives that inform business decisions.

* Build a clean data environment: Help keep our data accurate and reliable, so we can meet regulatory requirements.

What you'll learn

You'll join a specific team and see first-hand how data analysis drives decision-making at HSBC. You'll get stuck in from day one, working on projects that have a real impact.

You'll combine technical training, skills coaching, and hands-on work to build your confidence and capability. You'll leave with an understanding of data and technology concepts, modelling, and insights and how they influence big business decisions.

Your application journey

As part of your application, you'll complete a short online coding test. This helps us understand your current skills so we can tailor our support and help you get the most from the programme.
