Job Description:
About Anthropic
Anthropic's mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.
Role Summary
We are seeking a Procurement Business Partner to serve as Anthropic's procurement lead for all EMEA purchasing operations. This generalist role will own end-to-end procurement across EMEA markets with particular depth in Real Estate & Workplace and Professional Services categories. You will be the go-to procurement partner for EMEA business stakeholders, building procurement infrastructure and vendor relationships outside the US as Anthropic scales globally.
This role requires someone who can operate independently across time zones, navigate EMEA contracting complexities, and bring strategic sourcing rigour to a high-growth environment.
Key Responsibilities
International Procurement Operations
* Own end-to-end procurement operations for all EMEA purchasing, from intake and sourcing through negotiation, contracting, and ongoing vendor management
* Serve as the primary procurement point of contact for EMEA offices, ensuring consistent procurement practices and compliance across geographies
* Manage vendor onboarding, purchase requisitions, contract management, and spend analysis for EMEA spend
* Navigate EMEA contracting requirements including local regulatory compliance, currency considerations, tax implications, and cross-border vendor structures
* Champion Zip adoption and compliance for EMEA business partners; drive workflow improvements and self-service enablement
* Ensure PO hygiene, timely receipting, and clean metadata that supports invoice matching, reporting, and financial controls
* Support month-end close activities including accrual submissions and PO reconciliation for EMEA spend
Strategic Sourcing & Category Management
* Lead strategic sourcing initiatives across EMEA categories with particular focus on Real Estate & Workplace (office buildouts, facilities management, FF&E) and Professional Services (Big 4 advisory, audit, consulting, legal services)
* Develop and execute category strategies that balance cost optimisation, quality, and local market dynamics
* Conduct market intelligence and benchmarking across EMEA markets to inform sourcing decisions and ensure competitive pricing
* Lead complex vendor negotiations independently, structuring deals that account for local market conditions while protecting Anthropic's financial interests
* Build and maintain preferred-vendor frameworks for key EMEA categories, driving consolidation and leverage where appropriate
* Manage RFP processes for major EMEA engagements
Business Partnership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
* Serve as the embedded procurement partner to EMEA teams across Workplace, Finance, Legal, People, and other functions
* Partner with Legal, Security, TPRM, and Finance to ensure EMEA vendor engagements meet compliance and risk requirements across jurisdictions
* Translate complex sourcing and financial concepts for non-procurement stakeholders; build trust through responsiveness and results
* Proactively surface risks, savings opportunities, and vendor performance insights to business owners
* Collaborate with the US-based Procurement team to ensure alignment on global vendor strategies and procurement standards
* Develop procurement documentation, training materials, and best practice guides tailored to EMEA operations
Required Qualifications
* Experience: 7-10 years in procurement operations, strategic sourcing, or category management
* International Procurement: Demonstrated experience managing procurement across multiple geographies and navigating EMEA contracting, compliance, and vendor structures
* Category Depth: Hands-on experience in at least one of the following: Real Estate & Workplace procurement or Professional Services (Big 4 consulting, advisory, audit, legal)
* Systems Proficiency: Experience with Zip, NetSuite, Coupa, or similar procurement platforms
* Negotiation: Track record of independently leading complex vendor negotiations
* Data Analysis: Strong skills in Excel/Google Sheets; experience with basic SQL or BI tools (Looker, Tableau, Power BI) for vendor and spend analysis
* Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to work effectively across time zones and cultural contexts
* Risk & Compliance: Understanding of financial controls, vendor risk management, and procurement compliance requirements in EMEA contexts
Ideal Candidate Profile
* Generalist mindset with strategic sourcing depth; comfortable spanning multiple categories while going deep on key ones
* Business partner first, not a gatekeeper; enables speed while maintaining appropriate controls
* Self-starter who can build procurement infrastructure and processes in new markets without a complete playbook
* Comfortable operating independently across time zones with a distributed team
* High accountability, low ego; builds trust through follow-through and results
* Brings intellectual curiosity about how procurement enables a mission-driven AI company's global expansion
* Strong executive presence and ability to influence stakeholders at all levels
Nice to Have
* Experience in technology or AI/ML companies
* Background in EMEA or EMEA office buildout procurement
* Experience with Big 4 or major professional services firm engagement management
* Familiarity with cloud infrastructure procurement (AWS, GCP, Azure)
* Experience supporting month-end close processes (accruals, PO reconciliation)
* CPSM, CSCP, CIPS, or other relevant procurement certifications
* Experience at hyper-growth or high-growth technology companies

How we're different
We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact - advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI - rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.
The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.
