Job Description

Purpose of the role
To generate returns, manage risk, and ensure the portfolio's financial stability and long-term success.

Accountabilities
* Allocation and monitoring of securities within a portfolio, aligned to the banks risk tolerance to framework and changing market conditions, investment objectives and regulatory requirements, utilising specialist software and data analytics tools, to enhance the portfolio management efficiency and effectiveness.
* Execution of research and analysis on various securities (equity, bond, funds) to identify profitable investment opportunities, aligned to the banks risk tolerance.
* Communication of the banks investment philosophy, decision making and investment selection to Clients and other key stakeholders such as Relationship Managers and Investment Advisors.
* Performance monitoring against benchmarks and objectives, analysing risk metrics, and creation of reports for senior colleagues and internal stakeholders.
* Implementation of risk management strategies to identify, assess, and mitigate potential financial risks associated with the portfolio, such as market fluctuations, credit risk, and liquidity risk.
* Conducting of simulations to assess the portfolio's resilience to different market scenarios and economic downturns, identification of potential vulnerabilities and informing on risk mitigation strategies, and communicate key findings to senior executives and board members.
* Monitoring of economic data, industry news, and geopolitical events to anticipate potential impacts on the portfolio and adjust strategies accordingly.
* Research of emerging asset classes, innovative investment strategies, and alternative investments to potentially enhance portfolio returns.
* Stakeholder management of investment banks, market makers, and other external partners as needed for portfolio transactions and information gathering.

Join us as a Portfolio Manager and a Fund Analyst within the Private Bank and Wealth Management (PBWM) Hedge Funds, Funds and ETFs team. Our vision is to deliver high quality scalable investment solutions driving growth across all PBWM channels, by helping clients achieve their investment objectives. We have a long track record of identifying the small subset of active managers who can deliver over the long term. We are agnostic regarding the structure of the investment and cover third party mutual funds, active ETFs and customised mandates. We are also able to work directly with investment managers to design and launch new investment strategies

The role is central to the identification, selection and ongoing monitoring of third-party investment managers with a primary focus on fixed income strategies. The role combines investment research and manager selection responsibilities with portfolio management of UCITS funds that utilise customised, third-party sub-advised mandates.

The successful candidate will contribute to delivering strong, risk-adjusted outcomes for a wide range of global clients across discretionary, advisory and Direct Investing platforms, operating within a robust risk management and governance framework.

What you will be doing:
* Undertake detailed investment due diligence on third-party investment managers, with a primary focus on fixed income strategies, including assessment of investment philosophy, process, people, risk management and performance.
* Identify and evaluate new investment opportunities and make well-reasoned manager selection and termination recommendations to internal governance forums.
* Perform continual monitoring of appointed managers, including regular review of performance, risk characteristics, portfolio positioning, style consistency and organisational developments.
* Contribute to the portfolio management of UCITS funds, including construction and ongoing oversight of portfolios comprising customised third-party sub-advised mandates, ensuring alignment with stated objectives, risk parameters and client outcomes.
* Support and challenge investment recommendations across other asset classes as required, acting as an objective and knowledgeable participant in broader investment discussions.
* Prepare high-quality written investment notes, monitoring updates and formal recommendations suitable for investment committees and senior stakeholders.
* Present complex investment concepts clearly and confidently to internal stakeholders, including peers and senior management.
* Integrate external consultant research as an input into the internal research and selection framework, contributing to a hybrid research model that combines proprietary and external insights.
* Use a range of investment and research tools, including Bloomberg, Morningstar, Dasseti, MSCI ESG Manager and Style Research, to support analysis, monitoring and reporting.
* Operate within established risk, controls and governance frameworks, ensuring appropriate documentation, escalation and adherence to UCITS and internal policy requirements.

Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications:

* Prior experience in investment research, fund due diligence and third-party investment manager selection.
* Strong investment knowledge including understanding of key risk drivers, portfolio construction and performance attribution.
* Demonstrable ability to analyse complex investment information with a high attention to detail.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to deliver clear, concise and well-structured investment recommendations.
* Investment Management Certificate (IMC) or equivalent qualification completed.

Desirable Skills/Preferred Qualification:

* Previous experience analysing or covering fixed income strategies
* Progress toward or completion of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) programme.
* Practical knowledge of UCITS regulations and fund structures.
* Familiarity with consultant research and experience integrating it into an internal research framework.
* Experience using one or more of the following tools: Bloomberg, Morningstar, Dasseti, MSCI ESG Manager, Style Research.
* Understanding of ESG considerations within manager assessment.
