Terms of ReferenceThe Protection/Community-Based Protection Intern will support the implementation of community engagement, protection monitoring, and accountability activities, working closely with UNHCR staff and partner organizations. The ideal candidate is motivated, proactive, empathetic, and committed to principles of protection. Strong communication skills, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to work with diverse populations are essential. The intern should demonstrate an interest in humanitarian work, forced displacement, human rights, and community-driven approaches.

Duties and responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Senior Protection Officer, the intern will:

* Support community engagement and communication with communities (CwC), including assisting in organizing information sessions, awareness activities, and outreach initiatives with refugee and asylum-seeking communities.
* Contribute to protection monitoring, including data collection, documentation of trends, and follow-up on identified protection concerns.
* Assist in strengthening Accountability to Affected People (AAP), including compiling feedback received through community channels and supporting analysis for timely action.
* Support community structures (e.g., committees, youth groups, women's groups) in identifying protection risks, developing community-led solutions, and strengthening inclusion of persons with specific needs.
* Contribute to information management tasks such as drafting community updates, supporting service mapping, and maintaining up-to-date outreach records.
* Assist in preparing reports, minutes, presentations, and briefing notes related to protection and CBP activities.
* Provide administrative and logistical support for field missions, meetings, workshops, and capacity-building sessions, as required.

Desirable qualifications and skills

* First required language: Proficiency in English (French and Arabic are strong assets).
* Strong interest in protection, community-based approaches, and communication with communities.
* Excellent interpersonal, listening, and communication skills; ability to interact respectfully with diverse communities.
* Good analytical and writing skills; ability to synthesize qualitative information.
* Ability to work in a multicultural environment, with flexibility, initiative, and a proactive approach.
* Good organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to manage multiple tasks.
* Familiarity with tools such as MS Office, Kobo/ODK, WhatsApp-based communication, or other digital engagement platforms is an advantage.
