The rooms were not all equiped with telephones and internet hookup was sparse. The dorms were within biking distance from most of the sights in the city.

Clothing and food are more expensive in Germany. Travel is about equal to here, but there is more oppurtunity and motivation to do things.

They have a wonderful German as a Second Language program. Take any of the courses there. Also, the choices of classes in Germanistik are very broad.

I wish I had known...
Make sure you buy a bike if you live in Freiburg. Plan on writing a lot of letters, that will help with homesickness and cost of telephone bills. Be open-minded and do as much as you can!

Forget those rail passes. Most of the trains are less than the rates for the passes. Do your best to interact with all the cultures.
