“worst college in Ireland”
UNdisclosed
Ireland, Undergraduate
, 2027
Overall
From the random changing of the course throughout the year, to the horrible campus, lack of parking, the sports ground and gym being a 15 minute walk off campus to the horrible absolutely non existent night life it is probably one of the worst colleges in the country. If this review can stop at least one person from making the soul destroying choice I did I would be happy. When I went to DKIT for the open day I was sold false promises, promising an enjoyable exciting experience in college with many practical applications on farm and in the ag college I was attending as part of the course. We were told wed be outside using practical applications half the time we were in college, as a third year student now I can say we actually did something practical 3 times in the past 3 years I have been in the college.
Too start off I am currently in DKIT in 3rd year, The college decided to change the modules of the course which is fair enough. As I'm sure everyone would presume they would implement into the new 1st years coming in this year, but of course DKIT wouldn't do that because it would make life bearable for the current students. As I am now currently repeating 4 modules this year that I completed and passed last year. DKIT decided to change the course and the modules live throughout each year. Leaving me now spending hours doing course work that I have already completed last year and if I fail these 4 modules that of which I have already passed I will have to repeat them.
the campus, DKIT campus is horrible. The buildings on campus are terrible, no where to sit at lunch, buckets catching leaks everywhere around the college, multiple seats in every room lecture hall being broken/dirty/graffitied on etc. I mean even the gym lacks variety of machines, half the time my student card won't scan. So I walk the 15 minutes from college to go to the gym to be told I can't go in even though the reception can clearly see my student ID and expiry date on the card, I even offer to show her my Moodle as proof I am still in the college, doesn't work.
Then the lack of parking, there is no parking whatsoever. Locals of Dundalk who made the right decision with their life and decided to go to college in Dublin park in the college and get the bus too college in Dublin early in the morning. Leaving any student who arrives anytime after 8:30 with no on campus parking. The nearest parking being in DKIT sport a 15 minute ride away, they claim to have a shuttle bus running all day however at 9.00am it fills up leaving people walking everyday. Meaning that I have to arrive 15-20 minutes early every morning in order to be on time to lectures.
There are two food places on campus one is the snack bar, of which do lovely rolls and such but that fills up at any busy point very fast and you could be waiting 20-30 minutes to just order. The only other place there is too eat is the canteen where 3 small chicken goujons and a plate of soggy chips will run you around 10 euro.
Even the amenities are poor, there is no on campus entertainment whatsoever, there are 3 pool tables all of which are occupied all day once again you could be waiting hours for a game.
I would highly recommend everyone against going to DKIT, I am unfortunately too far into my course to think about moving but given the chance to go back in time and choose again I would have gathered shit in my hands and clap everyday until I do then even step foot in DKIT.

In my opinion:
Most people loved it.
Important factors in my choice
(1) Unimportant – (4) Very important
Personal recommendation
The university quality depens of your course. In my case, media studies could be beeter courses and subjetcs.

Final comments
Ireland is the perfect country if you like to travel. The island is small and there are lots of nice towns to visit. Also is near England, and no so expensive to go there. Maybe the only negative thing is that Dundalk is too small, but there are allways international students, and you will not be alone.

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
Would look for housing with no foreign students, to speak more the local language.

Personal comments
Housing arranged by the university was for the sole benefit of the landlords whom had their plan well arranged with the university. The house had just been refurbished ans wasn't ready to live in for 6 students.
