Personal spending habits
You obvously go out a lot and some things are especially expensive, like telecommunications and nightlife. However, it is good value and probably cheaper than most places in Europe (having spent the summer in London I found Barcelona to be very cheap!!)

Althought Castilan is widely spoken they are a LOT of foreigners in BCN and its up to you wheter you want to speak English, French or any other language than Spanish. I made my efforts to interact with Spaniards.

Personal recommendation
Barcelona is just a fantastic city, you can't be bored!! Althought if your level of Spanish is low and you really want to improve it, I would suggest going somewhere else in Spain, where they are less foreigners.(eg. San Sebastian, Madrid, etc.)

Final comments
If you can, travel to the Basque Country, Galicia and Madrid and if you have additional time, I would suggest Andalucia.. Althoughtt hey are tons of interesting places in Catalunya, just a few hours from BCN. A lot of exchnage student from nearby countries (france especially) spent there weekends going home : i think that breaks the spirit of the exchange and does not make your stay abroad worthwhile.

They are about one zillion bars, cafés and nightclubs in barcelona.. You will discover your own favourites. The bottom line is to experience as much as you can and make the most of it.

HousingType of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
I would choose something more centrally located. My advise would be to take your time in searching for a flat as moving quicly into the first one you encounter (which is what I did) is not the best option. If you are perseverant, they are many very nice flats in the centre of BCN.
