Personal spending habits
I didn't make as many phone calls as at home. I mainly used SMS and instant messaging due to the price levels. The food and the housing was more expensive than in Sweden. Since I wanted to see as much of the country as possible, I spent a lot of money on traveling.

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
I shared an apartment with two Swiss people, which was a great way to practice my French. However, I would like to get to know more students, especially ones from other schools and programs.

Personal comments
The university does not own any housing complexes. However, it advertises offers from people who rent out rooms or apartments. This solution works well. One can also find many offers posted on boards around the campus. Another great way to find housing is to consult the different student and housing websites.

You should at least know basic French in order to interact with people on the street.. I had a little problem sometimes using only English

Course recommendations
Courses were OK, there is a very big choice in physics courses, but the few I chose were not the best. The lab I worked in however was very well equipped.

Apply early for a place in the university student accomodation (with the FMEL agency) as it's the best but you have to apply very early! In order of preference: Cèdres, then Bourdonette and then Rhodanie, the others aren't so good for location or sociability. Cèdres is by far the best if you like being near the lake, and partying all night with other students! The price is also cheap compared to the UK, and everything is well organised.

Personal recommendation
A lot of student activities are organized, especially for exchange students. Attend as many of them as possible. This way you will learn how the university works, you will get to know other students and you will get many recommendations on what to do and see in school and in Switzerland.
