One of the oldest universities and student life in paradise
Knarik P
Germany, Graduate
Economics, 2020
Overall
I could highly recommend Master program in Economics at the FSU Jena. First of all, it's a unique research oriented program completely taught in English. Therefore, usually more than 70% of students are the international students. Besides, the program provides the opportunity to be specialized in 4 different fields including innovation and change, public policy, international economics and strategy. Most of the students including me as well, choose the specialization area Innovation and change because of its dynamic and currently growing nature. The program involves lots of compulsory advanced courses in Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Empirical methods, Public finance, etc. There are also lots of selective courses in the above mentioned specialization areas. The university also provides the courses of statistical programming languages such as R programming. Besides, the university has lots of prominent and highly qualified researchers, who are very open, friendly and always eager to help. I would particularly like to emphasize the department of microeconomics, where professors have a high participation in students personal development and are always ready to provide extra explanation or discuss ideas. Finally, the FSU Jena is one of the oldest universities in Germany, which had lots of prominent graduates including Karl Marx. Besides, the university offers lots of extracurricular activities for students such as international evenings, sport courses (which are extremely cheap), welcome days, tours, and lots of different possibilities to spend your free time. The city of Jena is a small, but very international and beautiful student city where you can have a dynamic student life surrounded by wonderful nature and lots of possibilities for outdoor activities.

I enjoyed studying in Jena
Nico D
Germany, Graduate
Nutrition, 2023
Overall
I study/studied nutritional sciences in Jena. At first you will have a lot of basic natural sciences courses with students who specialise in a diffrent major. So it's a great opportunity to get to know people, which are usually not in your class. Later on you can chose a field in which you can specialise and have more advanced courses. All the professors are really kind and supportive. Jena is one of the smaller citys in Germany but for me it wasn't lacking anything. Wherever you live it takes a maximum of 30 min to get to the city center via public transportation, which is really convenient. The university offers a great variety of sports and opportunities to engage with other students.
