I wish I had known...
I didn't have a clue about scandinavian costumes, cultures and people, and was able to develop some familiarities with all of it, which today are still reflected in my life. Therefore, I still think it was an advantage to go "blank" for Sweden, as learning was done on a daily basis.

Personal recommendation
Fantastic arquitecture, on a beautiful place, with state-of-the-art facilities for students, during both class and extra-class periods. Good atmosphere, and very cosmopolitain ambient. Teaching is fair, compared with my home university and the demanding level to reach good marks is not that high. Anyway, I recommend it to anyone who wants to be on a modern and first level university.

Final comments
I just loved my 6 months period in Göteborg for all the below mentioned reasons. Travelled a lot around Scandinavia, met many people, learned new ways of studying, became very independent, learned to live by myself. If you want to experience a new life, please try to travel abroad and earn some international experience, it's just great!

Academic
Course recommendations
Courses are not that hard, especially if you're coming with a solid background. One must choose the post-graduate courses, as they demand for an higher level of concentration and hard work after classes. The undergraduate courses seemed to be very basic.

Local language is too difficult for a latin speaker. I took some swedich classes, among with some german and austrian students, who learned it much faster than I did. This way, in order to get the most profit of my experience (social and academic) I quit the language course, because it took me a lot of time to study meanwhile. Anyway, through TV and the family I lived with, I was able to basically develop local language and was able to sustain some rudimentar conversation with native speakers.

Expenses
Main source of funding:
Family
Other sources of funding:
An ERASMUS grant
Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options
Personal spending habits
Life standards are far higher in Sweden than in Portugal. One must do a financial effort in order to support himself on scandinavian countries. I felt like most of the foreign students had the same problem.

Personal comments
I didn't discover any in 6 months. Anyway, I was able to save a lot of money as my housing fee was entirely supported by the host family (except food, clothing and other primary goods). Food is not that expensive in small supermarkets in the outskirts of the main avenues.

I would choose to live in the same place, as the house I was living with had a perfect location, both in town and closeliness to the university . I was living in a family house, where everybody treated me like a family member and I really enjoyed my stay.

Cafe Olof, at university campus! Definetely the best spot to meet and find new friends! An event not to be missed is clearly the afterwork parties, on Friday's afternoons. There, you can easily connect both with local and student communities all across the town.
