Final comments
Book a hotel in advance, because finding a room could take some time. When you like skiing arrange a discount pass at the university or le GUC, have fun and just go out (easiest way of preventing a culture shock)

Personal comments
As the exchange semester took place in France it's really necessary to speak the country's language to get into contact with local people and the local authorities. At the university there weren't hardly any problems to follow the courses and there were a lot of international students, so if you wanted you could also speek English with them. Overall my french language skills had improved and got more fluent.
