International Business & Management Studies
Dajana N
Netherlands, Undergraduate
Business Studies, 2019
Overall
I'm studying International Business & Management at the HZ University of Applied Sciences in Vlissingen, the Netherlands. Vlissingen is a small place with a lot of international students. It is very easy to make contacts here. The study itself is very good, you follow courses in different fields, for example: management, logistics, finance, marketing, etc. In this way you learn different skills and you can find out what suits you best. Besides this, because the HZ University is a small university, you get the right attention from your teachers and coaches. They are very involved with your study career. The study last 4 years, in the first two years you study different courses at the HZ. In the third year you can go abroad for your minor and internship. Then in the fourth year you spend the first semester back at the HZ, where you get prepared for your last internship (which is in the second semester of that year).

I like the HZ University and Vlissingen a lot. Even though it's a small place, it's full of students and therefore it's never boring. The HZ offers a great selection of courses for this study and even the opportunity to follow an extra language (the whole study is held in English).

The courses offer great opportunities to work in projects and work on reports. You get prepared for the real life business world.

HZ university of applied sciences - Vlissingen, Netherlands (Tourism management)

Studying tourism management at HZ in Vlissingen gives you the opportunity to go abroad for internships or a minor as well as to work together with international students from different countries. Unfortunately the program often isn't that well organised, for example we had some last minute schedule changes or had to wait for concrete information about assignments for a long time.

It is a relatively small school, which makes that you know the teachers and students. The classes are really interesting, at least in my study (International Business & Languages). I like the teachers, they always try to help you. I am in a class with international students, which really develops your intercultural awareness.

The teachers are very open and friendly to explain and help you. The courses are setup in a way that you are doing relevant course work for actual companies as well. There is a lot of focus on practical use, so you can see where your theory comes into play and therefore you learn how to apply it, which is a great thing.

My academic experiences
Quality of courses
Variety of courses
Access to resources
Interaction with teachers
Interaction with international students
Interaction with local students
Personal comments
The total quality of the course is quite good. Professors and tutors are helpful and friendly. However, as the school is international oriented, most courses that given in English have very few Dutch students. The majority are Chinese, Vietnamese, Indonesian students and the European exchange students. Thus, it would be much nicer if there are a lot more interactive activitives among international and national students.
