It is a life time experience in south of France

Valoración global
I have found it very beneficial for my career ahead as the way of teaching is very different, mostly presentations and articles. Teachers are very dedicated who have lots of international exposure. You have definitely a chance to win a high amount of scholarship.  Hostels are one of the best accommodations that I have experienced and it's very cheap.
The city is very historic with many  recreational things and events to visit.

Recomendación personal
Beautiful city, good uni, but there are other good unis in France with fewer anglophones about. I was lucky, but it's really difficult making French friends. They're not generally impressed with Brits and Yanks - and it's easy to see why.

Please try and live with a francophone - it makes your life so much easier. Try and get there early, round June to look for somewhere to live - housing is scarce. Beware of dodgy landlords. Southerners are notorious in France for swindling.

The best way to live with native speakers and integrate yourself in the culture - my French came on in leaps and bounds.

Campus accommodation is dire - there is very little security. Aix has a high rate of violence towards women on campus. Plus it is incredibly dirty, although very cheap. I was very lucky and lived in a house with my landlady and a French student. We got on well, and I had a ready-made network of French friends, thanks to my flatmate.

In the university the students spoke English, but outside the school you had to know enough to get around. Try speaking their language first, and they'll work with you-they thinks its rude for americans to go over there and speak English expecting everyone to know what you're saying (and even if they know English they'll pretend they don't until you try to speak the language).
