I spoke French before, but I was rusty and I chose to study in France to brush up on my French. But I hung out with many international students, so I didn't get to practice my French as much as I'd liked. I did learn a bit of French slang, and my conversational French improved. I would recommend taking more courses taught in French because I found them very helpful by forcing me to use and practice my French.

I wasn't too confident to begin with, but speaking French definitely became easier and the fact that local French students were willing to mix with us meant that we spoke a lot of French outside of class too, giving us the opportunity to get more fluent and learn some slang too!

Granted, I did not succeed the way I wanted to, partly because everyone there spoke English to some degree. I'd say, immerse yourself in the language by whatever means you can if you want to learn.

Mostly there are international teachers (Australia, England) so they speak English very well. Some local French teachers however can't speak english at all! Really frustrating!

The langugage courses could use some improvement. However, it is ultimately up to the individual to push himself/herself to use the language regularly.

Host university gives an opportunity to choose courses in English as well as in French.
