Jacobs University Bremen is a private, independent research university. Opened in 2001, it currently offers 20 Graduate programs (Masters/PhD) in the fields of engineering and science, the humanities and social sciences. Jacobs University brings many of the best aspects of American higher education in Europe: the classic bachelor's degree, combining broad exposure to many different intellectual traditions with solid training within a major field of specialization; on-campus living arrangements for undergraduates that will facilitate the inter-relatedness of social with academic life; small classes, ensuring ready access to faculty; hands-on research opportunities for students at both the undergraduate and graduate level; great flexibility in terms of student input into the design of their own academic programs.
