The slang in Austria is very difficult to understand and it takes a while to get used to it. It makes it slightly more difficult to get to know the Austrians well.

As the Austrian students speak with each other I am not able to understand them becouse of their dialect but I am able to communicate with everybody.

There is definitely a difference in accent and there are some colloquialisms compared with in Germany, but I think it's nice to be a bit different.

there is almost no need to speak german to study in linz however there are courses available to start learning or improve

Warning! Most people there speak Austrian German, which is quite disturbing sometimes, especially at the beginning.
