Its good atmosphere, as you meet other people from different cultures & the lecturers are also foreign, plus local ones.

JYVASKYLA IS A BEAUTIFUL PLACE TO STUDY AND IT HAS A GOOD BALANCE BETWEEN STUDY LIFE AND SOCIAL LIFE, I COULD NTO HAVE ASKED FOR MORE!! IF YOU PLAN ON GOING ENJOY AS MUCH A SYOU CAN...THE FINNS WIL ONLY INTERACT WITH YOU IF YOU MAKE THE FIRST ATTEMPT BUT ONCE YOU DO THEY ARE THE MOST NICEST PEOPLE IVE EVER MET, THEY ARE GENUINELY FRIENDLY AND WARM PEOPLE AND WILLTRY TO HELP YOU AS MUCH AS THEY CAN..ALSO INTERACT WITH THE FINNISH STUDENTS; YOU ARE USUALLY ASSIGNED TUTORS AND THEY HELP YOU TO SETTLE DOWN TO EVERYDAY LIFE. STUDYING THERE HAS BENEFITTED ME SO MUCH.. IMNOLONGER SHY AND I NOW HAVE FRIENDS ALL OVER THE WORLD!! IT WAS A GREAT EXPERIENCE AND I WISH I COULD HAVE STAYED FOR LONGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Must go to Elohuvi, its a really really good student club altho yuo have 2be 23 & over to get in - i was only 19 but stillmanaged to get in- dont be discouraged and always have a form of ID which is recognised worldwide!! NuNu's was the best club to go2, the interior the staff and the music was just fantastic: its like an intimate bar/club but it really is amazing!! Dominoes on a tuesday night is the best for midweek clubbin and it seems to make the week got faster... if you really like your R'n'B and HipHop you must go to Dominoes as they have the latest in those genre's!! Memphis is a Bar attached to Coffee House and both are connected to NuNu's Memphis is a great place for a quiet drink!! If you like Jazz payu a visit to Jazz Bar, they have live performances every thursday/fridays& saturdays...very very good!! what ever type of music you're into you are bound to find something to entertain yourself!!

Pourquoi?

You got to meet and interact with people, and the Finnish tend to be very helpful when they know you. Its the only way to really settle down!!

The housing was brilliant as it was organised by the host university, i lived with 2 french girls who were in my class, this made it terribly easy for us to get to know each other and become friends quite quickly. The hassle of looking for a place lies with the university therefore you have nothing to worry baout. Its usally just 3 people to a flat so that made it feel more like home and you tend to get on quite well with your flatmates. The rooms are extremely spacious, you get a balcony and it was probably more than i could have hoped for.

Learning finnish was a bit of a daunting task as it is not related to any other languages, but international students get to study the language at level 1&2 also as far as you'd like to learn teh language...being there for jsut 5months i got upto stage2. Once you understand the basics its quite easy to communicate with the local students..it is advisable to learn the basics before actually going thereas it makes it much easier when communicating with the locals

At the uni there is a lunch which almost costs nothing. It is a four courses meal, which makes sure that bread in the evening is all that is needed. If this meal was not there expenses would be way up!! A night out is expensive. The place I lived was really cheap (because the uni only charged us with cost for elect. and water), normally is a bit more then in the Netherlands. It is a great place to travel from and therefor more expensive. I went to Russia, Estonia, Sweden and in different places in Finland.
