I wish I had known...
Of the courses I followed in Graz only two were accepted by my home-university and I hardly found any matching courses. I didn´t know that beforhand and was really disappointed because I studied a lot in Graz and it was a waste of time.

The atmosphere amongst the students is wonderfull and the city is beautifull. The professors are very friendly and helpfull. The level however is not that high (in comparison to my home-university) and it is a bit chaotic.

It is very important to make contacts not only with exchangestudents but also with Austrians. The studentsorganisation organises a lot of trips (to Vienna, Prag, Budapest,...). You shouldn´t miss them. It is best to come a week before the courses start. That way you can get to know the city and visit the most beautifull places ( Schloßberg, Hauptplatz, Schloß Eggenberg,...) without having to hurry.

Graz is a good base for traveling - Vienna, Prague, Budapest, Zagreb, Italy and Germany are all within easy reach. You need to register your accommodation as soon as you arrive, but that is really easy to do - just print a form off, fill it in and get it registered!

take it easy, study what you need, but don't lose your opportunities to have fun, and don't be shy. Try to talk with everybody. Austrians're not that cold as they seem... but you have to move first!

If you want to visit Austria, and I warmly recommend it, try to of these ways: bring your car or rent one there and go with people met there, weather Austrians or Erasmus just as you. OR buy the Vorteilscard, which gives you 50% discounts on trains in Austria and abroad. It shouldn't cost more than 20 euros and it's a great thing! HAVE FUN!

Austria is an interesting mixture of west and east and the culture is a conbination of this. The people are really nice and the dialects cute(don´t be disappointed if you don´t understand them all, the most Austrians don´t either!). With a little effort you´ll find all the information needed from the host university and the welcome guide was really good: read it carefully and you don´t have anything to worry about!!!

if you have the opportunity to stay the whole year, do so : Graz in summer is cool, but in winter even though it's really cold, the Christmas market and the celebrations are amazing...

Course recommendations
Well, I'm not an ordinary student. I'm learning german in a school (Vorstudentlergang), which is a prerequisite before learning at the University. I have 5 hours german a day, and the courses are really well done. Regarding the University itself, I know that it's hard sometimes to get the courses you want because of too many demands (students are queuing since 4 in the morning!!!!), but the communication with teachers (the good ones of course!) is really good.

There is really too many papers to fill in! But this is not only regarding the academic life! That's the way it is, we have to get used to it! It's only 2 months I'm here, but everything is wonderful the hard start!
