Bring a raincoat! Wasn't prepared for the amount of partying... but that isn't really such a bad thing is it? Living abroad, especially in Copenhagen, forces a lot of independence out of you. In situations where I used to run to my mommy for help, I had to deal with everything myself but its a great feeling of accomplishment to know that you're capable of it!

I haven't met a single person who hasn't loved Copenhagen. A lot of people (including myself) ended up here on a whim but we've wound up loving it to bits. The city is small and cosy and very easy to get to know. Yes the Danes can be difficult to break through but its worth the effort because they will be honest and loyal friends to you. The exchange community is vast and tightly knit. Everyone knows everyone.

Buy a used bike to get around. It saves tons of money in bus/metro fares, gives you more freedom and keeps you fit! The bike culture here is insane but I love it. Try to plan your travels ahead of time to get the best rates. And try not go in a really big group! As fun as it sounds its IMPOSSIBLE to make decisions with a dozen people together. Your mobile phone will be your lifeline. Everyone texts each other because its cheaper. The city is notoriously safe, but never leave your bag down at a club! Try not to tie yourself down by just hanging out with people from your home uni or country. Go out, make friends, have fun!!

Get going! You have to be somewhat independant and resourceful at finding your own friends, and enjoy being somewhat anonymous. I came from a big public university, so I was used to being anonymous. On the other hand, the classes were small and fairly intimate, but do not expect anyone to baby you.

I chose to go to Denmark because I wanted courses in English (my German was too weak to go to Germany), I wanted to experience a little known culture and learn their language, and I wanted to experience first-hand a socialist country. Denmark is great: everything is clean; everyone has health care and does not seem wanting of any material needs; things are so orderly and structured, such as taking numbers everywhere so there are no ques, that no one ever feels chaotic anxiety; but mediocritcy, albeit at an incredibly high level, reigns in Denmark -- no one wants to rise above others, but rather keep everyone at a high level. I feel bad about making such generalizations, but feel that they are fair from my experience. Do not expect to welcomed with a hug and find companionship wherever you turn in Denmark, but a somewhat independant person will love the place.

Copenhagen is a great city, with lots of stuff to do! Students from Southern Europe however had a tendency to complain about the 'coldness' of the locals, as well as the high costs of living. The academics were great, but mostly you had to create your own activities, (which wasn't that hard) If you wanna experience Scandinavia, Roskilde University Center, or Lund in Sweden could be a better alternative as far as I heard. For me however, the year in Copenhagen turned out to be the most enriching and fruitful year of ny studies, both socially and academically! You'd love it too!

No matter how open-minded you consider yourself to be before going abroad, you never are! The right attitude is definetely to absorbe as much as you can, and make the cultural differenies look positive. If you tend to be less social at your home university, don't go abroad with the hope that everything's gonna change once you move. A new enviroment doesn't have to mean an automatic acquisition of new friends, most probably you'll have to take a lot of initiative yourself!

Well first time in Copenhagen was a bit streessful but after 4 months I managed to settle best advice get proper winter outfit. The weather changes quite often but good thing the city is the right size for you to access easily from university to your part-time job very easily.
Are you thinking to move here? Start to apply for accommodation at least 5-6 months before you move. Check those student accommodation websites, sign up for their waiting list, get an insurance for all your belongings and get some Danish lessons.
Overall, my life at University is amazing. Everyone is very welcoming and many international students are in the situation as you.
Try to socialize as much as possible, discover new places and try to visit the countryside if you can.

Try to improve the links between the local and the international students. That proves to be very important for those who just arrive.
