Finland, Undergraduate Fine Art (Painting, Sculpture, Printmaking), 2009
Overall
I studies at Lahti Institute of Fine Arts from 2005-2009. Unfortunately the Fine Arts Institute is no longer open. The Design School has a very good national reputation with many designers coming from there. I felt that since my concentration was oil painting, that there was very personal attention from the head professor of painting Markus Heikkerö. The tutors at times were less positive. Photography was taught to be able to document your physical work, rather than as fine art photography. There was a lot about lighting that I would have been happy to learn, yet did not. We requested Performance to be taught and even were able to suggest a teacher. That was very personal that we could plan our studies so autonomously. Time based media was also taught, but not on a level that one could call it their concentration. I have now moved towards that medium since graduation.

Pros
Able to request special studies
Cons
Not delving into other concentrations aside from 2D painting and 3D sculpture. Not a lot of moving image teaching.
