I have been learning English for years. I thought that when I went to an English speaking country I would understand many things. However, this did not happen. At first, it was really dissapointing because I could not understand people in the street, but I could understand teachers. So, Ihad to get used to asking for things many times because did not understand what I was being told. Moreover, english people in general did not make any effort to make us understand what they were saying. My host country was United Kingdom, so I had to speak and in general communicate in English. Some difficulties due to the local accent were overcome as the time was going by.
