To send a message or to make a call was more expensive than in my home country. Furthermore, i used pre-paid phone as i was supposed to stay only for a year and that's one of the reasons why the bill was higher. When it comes to traveling, i came from Asia, therefore, it was a lot cheaper to travel around other European countries, other than that, i found many special offers for student and that is why i could travel around in a reasonable price.

Well, the insurance fee is quite high and in Germany, you always have to give tips and that was surprising. Cost-saving tips.... there are many grocery stores in Munich such as Rewe, Plus, Tengelmann and Lidl. Lidl is the cheapest though sometimes the quality is bit lower. If you are a student, buy a monthly ticket with which you can use U-Bahn and Bus freely. If you are to travel a lot especially within germany, buy Bahnkarte, this is a card with which people can buy a travel ticket cheaper. You can get additional discount when buying this card if you are a student.

I used my English phone when I got there for a few months which was a huge mistake and got a huge bill (German mobile phones aren't very reliable but they are quite cheap so I now have one of those). My accomodation was about 100 pounds per month which was very cheap. Travel is also very inexpensive if you travel in groups (5 people can travel on a Bayern Ticket or Schönes Wockenende Ticket which costs 40DM). I also got a Bahnkarte which cost 135DM for students and makes all train fares half price (this is because I now travel mostly alone as I no longer live in Munich). The U-Bahn is also fairly cheap (about 20DM per month for the Innenstadt in Munich - this also includes busses and trams).

Don't use an English mobile on international roaming if your stay is more than a few weeks.

The level of cost is higher in Germany than in Lithuania and Poland, which made the year abroad quite a costy experience. I wanted to visit many interesting places and spent a lot on travelling.

Best deal to get food are the spledid supermarkets Penny Markt, Netto, which are both fresh and good. Also, the university restaurant is cheap and very good. Clothes you can buy pretty cheap on Flohmarkt (second-hand market), in C&A, H&M, which have satisfying quallity.

No surprises. Coock our own food and it comes out much cheaper than eating out all the time. Go out on the weekends. You can eat at the Mensa if you can´t cook yourself. The food costs 3-4,5 DM, but the environment there isn´t very atractive.

The lifestyle here is different. Things are more expensive, but going out is cheaper - no taxis, lots of free parties.
