Most students speak good english and other people in Munich less so. The locals in Bayern have a strong accent but not really sizeable in Munich.

Personal spending habits
I took more opportunities to travel around and abroad, so it costs. Price level is higher in Munich than the rest of Germany (except a few other places) and most W. European countries.

Academic
Course recommendations
Before a new semester starts a book (Vorlesungverzeichnis) publishes the list of all courses available at the LMU. As a foreign student you may attend different faculties. Most courses are in german but several are taught in english at the BWL (Business Administration) and VWL (Economics) faculties. Facilites are good and lots of information for BWLers is available on the web.

Studying at the LMU allows you a great autonomy but Institutes and faculties aren't centralized so it's up to students to organize themselves.

Personal recommendation
Big uni, well located in the city (check out the Englisher Garten next to it). Be autonomous, don't expect a great help from teachers or administration. I mean they're nice but not really available for students...

Final comments
Munich is an attractive city, clean and safe, but make sure you taste the Real Bavaria (Chiemsee, the Alps...) and MittelEuropa (CH, CZ, A, SK). Take part in most excursions & the Orientierungskurs offered at the beginning. A first a Münchner might look sober and not willing to talk much, but wait till you share a Mass of Helles with him! Mit freundlichen Grüssen.

Clubs: a great deal of clubs are gathered in Kunstparkost near the Ostbahnhof in a old huge slaughterhouse and factory area. This gives a weird feeling for the place at first glance, sort of a chaotic urban vision in science-fiction movies. But rather safe and not so wild after all. Most clubers there are teenagers thus making prices affordable. Can be very packed on week-ends. More stylish and 'studentish' clubs can be found scattered around in the city. Gosh I hate this German Drum&bass they can feed you with all night long. Pubs & Kneipen: nightlife is located mainly in the Schwabing and Münchner Freiheit districts north of the university but beware 'cause most bars close at 1 a.m during week-days and not later than 3 a.m on week-ends. The typical atmosphere in a german kneipe is 'ruhig und gemütlich' with candles on tables. It Turns out to be dullish for me so I'd rather head to an Irish pub with good music such as the Günther or Shamrock. Keller & Biergarten: Ah, now we're talking about the REAL Munich. Great beers, Oohm-pla-pla bands (check out Höfbräuhaus) and the Lederhosen guy serving you 12 Masses+ 9 Bretzels: a must of Munich! Overall, Munich is a great place to enjoy at night although it's hard to find crazy places with crazy people like in Nice.

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
Studenthouses are lively and rather international while a room far off any Studentwohnheim (as I was) deters you from partying all the time and having long evening chats anytime you feel like.

There're at least 4 large Studenthouses (Studentwohnheim) but also a few others in the Munich area: Studentenstadt: the largest and oldest in Munich. A huge complex where you feel rather anonymous and caught in the rat race. Olympiazentrum: a bit like the previous one but with the nice and lively Olympiapark in the proximity. Kieferngarten: the cosiest and on a human scale but might feel bored there! Klinikum-großhadern: The most recent and liveliest one in munich. I recommend it.
