PUC-Rio has the most amazing campus I have ever seen. It looks like a tropical forest. It is really really pretty.

Personal spending habits
Food, housing, nightlife, and travel are cheaper in Brazil than in the U.S. However, all types of telefone usage are more expensive, and my tuition in the university was about the same as what I paid in the U.S.

I ended up paying about %15 more for tuition towards the end of my stay due to changes in the exchange rate between the American Dollar and Brazilian Real. Because of the fact that my university did not have a program with the university that I chose in Brazil, I was paying tuition directly to the Brazilian university, month by month. I would recommend trying to study abroad through a university in your home country in which you continue to pay your regular, home university's tuition in order to avoid exhange rate fluctuations.

Housing
Type of housing: With a family
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
Because the first time you live in a country it is strictly necesary, according to my point of view, to live with a family or native friends to experience great cultural immersion. But when you have lived there yet, it´s better to live by yourself, so you don´t bother your friends.

Be certain to open lines of communication with the CCII office at PUC well before your intended period of study begins. This will only work in you favor, as they are eager to assist all foreign students in any way they can.

Attention because if you don't talk with the native students they will not talk with you. It is a private university so everybody is more close than in a public one.

Overall
PUC-Rio is one of the most respected Univeristies of Brazil. It has a great infrastructure and is well equiped to teach undergraduate students, as well as Post-Grad, Master's and Doctor's degree students. The campus is beautiful and intertwined with fauna and flora, preserving a very calm and refreshing atmosphere, ideal for studying.
