Founded in 1979, the Theatre Academy provides the highest education in theatre and dance in Finland, training actors (in Finnish and Swedish), music theatre professionals, directors, dramaturges, lighting and sound designers, dance artists (choreographers and dancers), dance and theatre pedagogues. The Theatre Academy is a university of performing art acting as an arts and research centre for theatre and dance.
The Theatre Academy operates mainly in Helsinki; the Department of Sound and Lighting Design is in Tampere.
