When I arrived it was a shock as the way I was taught in England was not representative of everyday language use. Now I'm more fluent and familiar with everyday terms.

I wish I had known...
I would have been useful if we were informed just how difficult it is to find decent accommodation here.

Check out Barcelona and other cities/towns in Spain as it is cheap to travel around. Clubbing is great here. Make the most of your year.

Academic
Course recommendations
As soon as you arrive get to know your ERASMUS office, and all those who work there; also become familiar with you tutor in charge of the ERAMUS students. Spain is very beauracratic so expect to fill out lots of paperwork, make sure you have all the necessary letters from your home university so that your registration in your host university isn't delayed.

Depending on the type of club you like. I recommend Gabanna - private members club; Cool - excellent vibe and people; Coyote - excellent;Space of sound - the music, vibe is absolutely amazing here, you have to try it at least once when you are Madrid. This club should have more recognition on the International scene because its not in Ibiza, New York or London its underrated. I think its much better than Ministry in London! I love partying in Madrid....you can rave from Friday through to Monday afternoon - I have! I now do PR for the club Coyote.

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
I like my independence, renting in Madrid is cheap compared to London so for reasonable rent you can get a room in a really good area; as I did.

Personal comments
The university provides no accommodation that I am aware of, neither was there any help offered when I was searching for a flat. I feel the university should have a specific housing office to help students find private accommodation, especially foreign students.
