The Filmoteca, the best place to go if you like cinema and like see movies in its original version (plus, it's cheap). The Malasaña barrio and also Tribunal are probably the best spots if you like bars (and a wide variety too). There is a lot to do in Madrid!

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
Because if the campus is centric, it is easier to get to the facilities everyday and one still is able to access to the city without great inconveniences.

Personal comments
The facilities were very good and the staff extremely helpful. The learning experience was very different from the one I had in Portugal because teachers in UCM were more interested in free thinking and personal development than in plain books and notes reproduction.

Overall
I wish I had known...
I wish I could've been advised about housing because that was the most difficult thing for me in the whole ten months I spent there.

In my opinion:
I loved it but I'm not sure everybody would.
Important factors in my choice
(1) Unimportant – (4) Very important
Personal recommendation
The ambiance is amazing, very laid-back and tolerant. The classes are interesting, estimulating and there is a wide variety for you to choose from. I can almost say that I learned more in just one year that in three years in my home university in Portugal.

If you get the opportunity to go study in UCM, do it! You'll work hard but make the most of it and you'll have a year to remember.

Languages
Language of instruction: Spanish
Was learning Spanish a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't.
How much did you improve your Spanish?
My level before: Did not speak it
My level after: At ease in most situations
Language difficulties
Administrative / Institutional
Personal comments
Considering that I knew nothing of spanish when I first arrived to Madrid, I think I acquired pretty good language skills. The fact that I had the opportunity to learn the language in its country of origin was a big advantage and I am certain that I wouldn't have a better spanish if I had learned it in a course in my home country.
