Local supermarkets and restaurants (partuicualrly the tapas bars) tend to be cheaper than at home.
Calling home is obviously more expensive but you should buy a Spanish SIM card to communicate with friends in Spain.
Housing is generally the same or cheaper.
There is a lot going on at night, especially for Erasmus students (more or less from Tuesday - Saturday) but on the plus side alcohol tends to be much cheaper than at home.

Murcia is much cheaper than larger cities such as Madrid or Barcelona. Supermarkets such as Mercadona and Dia offer the best value. Apartments around the university tend to be more expensive than those further from the Campus but are generally not as modern/comfortable.

Try as many courses as possible in the first few weeks to ensure you study something you're going to enjoy. You usually have around a month until you have to register. Make sure you know how much work you will be expected to do before you register for a course. In some literature courses you will be expected to read as much as Spanish students, which can be up to 11 books a semester!

Much cheaper place to study than larger, more well-known cities.
Lots to do and see in Murcia and the surrounding region. Good transport links to Andalucia, Valencia etc.
Good Erasmus Student Network (ESN) which arranges trips throughout the year for Erasmus students.
Great nightlife!

I feel that there has been a big improvement in my language ability since arriving in Murcia. Interaction with Spanish students/local people is a must!

Badulake is the main bar for international students and sells cheap drinks on Wednesdays (Erasmus night). Many other cheap bars are located around La Merced campus in the city centre. The tapas bars in and around Plaza de las Flores should not be missed!
